What’s up, love!
I’m Gemma Bonham-Carter, and I’m so excited that you landed here on my site. So, who am I and what’s this all about?
Well, I started a blog in 2010 called THE SWEETEST DIGS. My husband and I had just bought our first fixer upper home and I wanted to share our renovations and updates with friends and family. Little did I know that I would fall head over heels in love with blogging.
After several years, I started to monetize my blog and tried all kinds of different things to turn it into a profitable business.
Luckily I stumbled along a path that worked – I grew my readership, monetized with “traditional” methods (ads, sponsored posts, and affiliate marketing), and also launched a physical product line using Etsy. I continue to write that blog and run it as a successful business. If you are into DIY projects and decorating, be sure to head on over there!
In 2015 I spoke at a blogging conference and was asked all kinds of questions about the business of blogging. I answered them, and then started writing some blog posts about biz stuff on my blog in case others were also interested.
The response I got was incredible.
Thousands of people signed on to my email list to get more blogging tips. I loved connecting with these folks. I created an online community on Facebook (join us here!). I also fell in love with teaching.
There are lots of other people out there writing about the “business of blogging”, but I didn’t see many who were niche-specific. Since I know home and DIY blogging, I thought I could create a space where I could share specific blogging tips and advice for other home and DIY bloggers. No advice that may or may not be relevant. This would be tailored.
When I realized how much I LOVED dishing out blogging advice and helping others build their blogs and started to post more about it, it just didn’t make sense to keep it all under THE SWEETEST DIGS brand. It felt weird to be publishing posts about blogging biz, and then others about DIY projects and decorating. Like it would be confusing and creating two different audiences.
I also didn’t want my traffic or success over at THE SWEETEST DIGS to be tainted by the “blogging biz” stuff. I wanted to keep it separate so that I could share what *really* works for a Home and DIY blog.
So, I created this new home over here at GemmaBonhamCarter.com. You’ll find posts about blogging, social media, etsy advice, and so much more.
I have a guide on how to start a blog.
I keep a running list of my go-to blogging resources.
I even offer one-on-one support for any blogging-related tasks you might have.
Basically, I want to see you succeed. I want to share what I have learned (and continue to learn) over on THE SWEETEST DIGS and dish it all out here. What works, what doesn’t, and how to build a business online. Whether it’s to have a little extra cash for family trips, or build up an empire, I want to help you reach your goals.
