How are things going at home for you?? We have gotten into a pretty decent routine here.

I work from 6am to 9am every day uninterrupted and then am done for the day so I can hang with the kids.

On Tuesday and Thursdays only, I have client and coaching calls here and there throughout the day. Which is when my kids get a little extra screen time 😉. The whole thing actually isn't going too badly. And is making me re-evaluate allllll the tasks I usually do when I have more work time. A lot of stuff is getting either slashed or systematized.

There is definitely an art to pitching.⁠
⁠
I get dozens of emails in my inbox every single week with pitches. For sponsored posts, podcast guests, and frankly, weird random stuff.⁠
⁠
Very few of those pitches are well written. Probably like 1%.⁠
⁠
One of the biggest mistakes I see people making when it comes to pitching is spending way too much time talking about themselves. Like they need to prove their worth before I would consider partnering with them on something.⁠

But truthfully...⁠
⁠
The size of your audience, how long you've been doing this, the past podcasts you've been on, none of that really matters when you've crafted a pitch in the right way.⁠

I have had success in pitching myself for podcasts, for lead magnet swaps, for speaking engagements, for online summits, and for article features even without a big audience. The first time I gave a talk at a conference about business and marketing, I hadn't even created gemmabonhamcarter.com yet.⁠

Heck, I still don't have that the 10k instagram followers that seems to be a random benchmark of "making it".⁠

(In all honesty, I'd love to get my biz to a million in revenue BEFORE hitting that 10k to prove that we don't actually need social media!!)⁠

In the beginning of 2019, I was pretty much 100% reliant on paid ads to generate new leads for me. I was a LAZY marketer.⁠
⁠
I was focusing on crafting new programs (The Passive Project, mostly) and didn’t have time to drive organic leads.⁠
⁠
But I knew that my profit margins were going to take a big hit if I left it like that forever. Ads ain’t free, yo!⁠
⁠
So around July I started pitching collaborations. Obvious things (podcast interviews) and not-so-obvious things (lead magnet swaps) that I had a feeling could result in some good list-building traction.⁠
⁠
It was a test. It wasn’t something I had seen other "gurus" really talk about, so I really didn’t know if it would work.⁠
⁠
It was around the same time that I turned off a lot of my facebook ads. I still used ads for my live launches and then in the Fall layered in ads for my new "mini offer", 52Prompts, but the pure list-building ads I had been running to lead magnets got axed.⁠

I expected my list-growth to majorly slow down.⁠
⁠
But it didn’t.⁠
⁠
Thanks to the pitching and collab system I had put in place, I was gaining visibility, got in front of other people’s audiences, and my email list continued to grow.⁠
⁠
Here’s the thing... when someone gets referred to your business and decides to opt in, there is a built-in level of trust already there. They usually are the ones who open your emails, turn into your VIP, and eventually buy waaaay more easily than leads from ads.⁠

I quickly realized how crazy EFFECTIVE this strategy is and couldn’t wait to get more intentional and doing more of it.⁠
